▶ Matière, paysage et récit dans le théâtre de marionnettes

- by Catarina Firmo. Éditions Manuscrit. Paris.

When the boundaries of puppetry arts are extended, new spaces to activate the inanimate emerge. Contemporary puppetry is recognised for it's hybridity and an indomitable desire for freedom, but also for a diving into their oldest roots: the further puppets move into the future, the more they meet their ancestors. By their power of animism, puppets challenge the limits of the imaginary and the possibilities of representation of materials. A study that proposes to follow an itinerary of shows and puppet theatre companies where the idea of animism arises to explore the expressive possibilities of the materials, listen to their stories and reactivate landscapes, whether they are real or generated by our dreams.
Catarina Firmo is a researcher and professor at Centre for Theatre Studies at FL.UL and Invited Adjunct Professor at ESELx-IPL.
