Transport: Departure is a docufiction theatre performance that, through an intimate narrative and a broader socio-environmental context, exposes the consequences of excessive human interference with nature. It intertwines the real-life experience of the Fužir family from Prevalje, who lost their home in the 2023 floods in Slovenia, with a fictional dimension. A realistic audio recording of the family’s testimony confronts the audience with the direct experience of loss and the fragility of human existence.

In the pursuit of economic growth, we have occupied riverbeds and reshaped landscapes, yet nature persistently reminds us that it operates by its own rules – increasingly through storms, floods, and landslides. By weaving together the personal and the collective, the documentary and the fictional, the intimate and the social, the performance offers a powerful response to contemporary reality and emphasizes that space is a holistic natural system, whose imbalance carries consequences we cannot ignore. How many more warnings will humanity ignore before taking action?

"If we knew our house would collapse, we would have saved our memories." - Família Fužir

Transport project: In response to the climate urgency, Slovenian director Tin Grabnar has brought together six puppet theaters for a European project on the impact of transport in the contemporary world. In the spirit of a six-episode series, which can be viewed together or individually, each performance focuses on a specific issue linked to the consequences of global traffic and globalization.

You can also see another creation from this project on 23 and 24 May: Transport: Tipping Point.

BIO

Ljubljana Puppet Theatre - Lutkovno Gledališče Ljubljana (LGL) is Slovenia’s leading puppetry institution, producing shows for children, young people and adults, drawing on a century-old tradition of puppetry, a heritage it preserves also thanks to the Puppet Museum located in Ljubljana Castle.
Every two years, LGL hosts the International Puppet Festival LUTKE and promotes a programme for emerging artists called BiTeater, which includes experimental productions in which the language of puppets is enriched by other artistic media.

Today, the Ljubljana Puppet Theatre is a vibrant contemporary theatre that operates at the intersection of classical puppetry and modern performance poetics.
