The World Puppetry Day, which comes every March 21st, is celebrated at Teatro São Luiz with the presentation of the programme of FIMFA Lx26 - International Festival of Puppetry and Animated Forms, which will run from 7 to 31 May 2026, in several spaces in Lisbon.
On this day, Luís Vieira and Rute Ribeiro, the artistic direction of FIMFA and A Tarumba - Teatro de Marionetas, will also give the Henrique Delgado Cultural Merit Award.
The Henrique Delgado Award aims to give recognition to personalities, companies or institutions that have developed a decisive work for the recognition of the puppetry arts, contributing to their knowledge, improvement and visibility.
There will also be the premiere screening of a documentary about Teatro de Marionetas do Porto, the company awarded with the 2024 Henrique Delgado Prize: Teatro de Marionetas do Porto – Memória, Afetos, Futuro (Memory, Affection, Future), directed by Tiago Inuit, with a running time of approximately 20 minutes.

Opening up space, reinventing or illuminating: these are some of the words that will guide the 26th edition of FIMFA Lx – International Festival of Puppetry and Animated Forms, established as a national and international benchmark event, showcasing the best in contemporary puppetry arts every year, while also highlighting traditional techniques and their transmission.
Each edition becomes a true performing arts platform for puppetry, featuring renowned artists and young creators with innovative projects, as well as parallel activities.
FIMFA transcends and merges artistic boundaries, in a moment of reflection and celebration with images, bodies, shadows, light, sound, machines, poetic contraptions and all kinds of objects or materials, which come to life in multiple ways – that is, puppetry to see and think about the world with a different perspective.

Henrique Delgado Cultural Merit Award
O Prémio de Mérito Cultural Henrique Delgado tem um caráter bianual e pretende prestar reconhecimento a personalidades, estruturas ou instituições, que tenham desenvolvido um trabalho determinante para o reconhecimento das artes da marioneta, contribuindo para o seu conhecimento, aperfeiçoamento e visibilidade, incluindo-se o seu caráter mais abrangente, na sua relação interdisciplinar com outros universos da criação artística, como o cinema, as artes plásticas, a dança, a arte numérica ou o teatro.
No panorama da história do teatro de marionetas em Portugal, o investigador Henrique Delgado (1938-1971) é uma figura incontornável. Os seus artigos foram extremamente importantes e constituem uma verdadeira referência, uma vez que, sem o seu incansável e minucioso trabalho, ter-se-ia perdido para sempre um conjunto de informações fundamentais para a análise do teatro de marionetas português. O seu trabalho foi publicado em diversas revistas e jornais nacionais e estrangeiros, o que também permitiu a divulgação internacional do teatro de marionetas português, à época muito pouco conhecido. Infelizmente, a sua morte prematura impediu a continuação deste trabalho.
Em 2019, o Prémio Henrique Delgado foi entregue a João Carneiro, jornalista e crítico teatral; em 2022, aos Bonecos de Santo Aleixo, tradição portuguesa cujas continuidade e divulgação têm sido mantidas pelo CENDREV; e em 2024 ao Teatro de Marionetas do Porto, no ano do seu 36.ª aniversário.
