An original and brilliant work, between balance, acrobatics, movement and the power of objects of different dimensions, which seem to take on a life of their own. This is a must-see performance and one of the highlights of FIMFA Lx21.

Optraken or the art of falling!

A collective of five amazing acrobats pit themselves against a hostile environment. Unstable ground disappears underfoot, walls wobble, ceilings collapse, sacks of flour fall from the sky, dangers come from every side. What is walking, if not risking falling? Driven by their crazy energy, they transform the stage into a gigantic playground of seemingly impossible events.

Optraken is spectacular, impressive, unpredictable and full of humor. Forget elegant tumbling and spangly tights, this inventive and original creation is a battle, where any movement is vital for survival. After an extensive tour in Europe, Optraken makes it's debut in Portugal.

In its first project, the Galactik Ensemble group develops a situational acrobatics, that is, the precise relationship between a rugged environment and man’s ability to adjust to it. Their approach is about bringing into play the individual as well as the group in front of a real unpredictability, a risky situation. They first experiment that short moment when we loose control, from dodging and falling to re-establishing balance. For the acrobats of the Galactik Ensemble, all means are good to stay upright... In the face of danger, they speak of resilience.

"Optraken is a compilation of object theatre, dance and circus, a renewing reflection on how the world works."

-France Info

“A Treasure house of inventiveness and superbly managed surprises. Driven by their crazy energy, the five circus artists transform the stage into a huge playground, where the incongruity of the acts gradually sets the tone for a diffuse terror. As if they wanted to emphasize that there can also be a lot of humor in difficult times..”

-Scèneweb

"Precarious and hilarious.”

-Libération

"On the open stage where the small traces of all past struggles accumulate, the five souls that become a single body, offer a beautiful show of organic solidarity. The empty and rugged space, became hostile due to the projectiles coming from all sides (...), a good live show."
-Agnès Dopff, Mouvement

"Danger is everywhere! This one-hour show, fluid, precise and demanding, offers beautiful moments of grace and keeps us in suspense. Very well built, with a real dramatic progression, it starts slowly and ends in apotheosis. Here, not everything goes through the performance, even if it is present from one end to the other. A lesson for young people... and the not-so young."

BIO

The Galactik Ensemble project was born out of the common desire to put into action simple actions on devices that involve the human body and its relationship with the environment. Issues such as standing, speaking, making a free gesture, resisting or adapting (to an external physical force) are their essential vectors. The collective questions the acrobatic language and goes beyond the heavy contours of the circus tradition, with a new approach to physical involvement giving rise to new gestures, although made from the same materials that traditionally make up acrobatics.
The five artists of the Galactik Ensemble trained at the renowned École Nationale des Arts du Cirque de Rosny-sous-Bois, and have worked with the best contemporary circus creators, such as Aurélien Bory, Mathurin Bolze or Yoann Bourgeois.
"We think of acrobatics as a concept capable of covering a wide spectrum, from the simple march to the dramaturgical writing of the piece, we trust it to develop our ideas and question our world.”
