HAPPY WORLD PUPPETRY DAY!

'I think art is important, vital, and it’s even something that people need to live.

Perhaps one of the functions or one of the prime reasons for the arts’ existence is that - of helping people to live.'
-Luís Vieira, A Tarumba

2020 was supposed to be a year of celebration. The FIMFA Lx - International Festival of Puppetry and Animated Forms celebrated 20 years in May. Everything was ready. The pandemic stopped the world and made all plans unfeasible. But Tarumba didn’t give up and managed to organize FIMFA in another format, a special summer edition, from 5 August to 5 September. Descon’FIMFA was one of the first theatre festivals to happen with an audience, after the first lockdown, with projects from four countries, Portugal, Spain, Mexico and Belgium. Most of the participating artists had not been on stage for six months. A month of emotions, of meetings and sharing with the audience, always respecting all the safety rules.
A documentary about this singular edition with testimonies from the participating artists, about how they lived the pandemic times and developed their artistic works in this context: Jomi Oligor and Shaday Larios (Oligor y Microscopía); Inês Barahona and Miguel Fragata (Formiga Atómica); Agnès Limbos and Gregory Houben (Cie Gare Centrale); Pedro Leal (PIA - Projectos de Intervenção Artística); André Murraças; Igor Gandra and Carla Veloso (Teatro de Ferro); Luís Vieira and Rute Ribeiro (A Tarumba).
