A poetic and darkly humorous puppet show for big and small monsters!
Mogrr is a minimalist puppet show that shamelessly uses all the tricks of burlesque, puppetry and humour. Here we find Julien Aillet's first puppet and other characters, made of cotton, cardboard and celluloid, in a unique, cruel and tender sound universe, very much inspired by Todd Browning's film Freaks, but also influenced by the melancholic innocence of Jacques Tati's Monsieur Hulot.
A dishevelled man who looks like he's straight out of a comic book, flanked by a rudimentary fairground device, arrives and invites the public to see "monsters". And the audience agrees, they want to see them! But... it's a bunch of maimed or severely distorted children parading on a tiny stage. It's a strange life... isn't it? Can it last indefinitely? No, no and no... You willl see.
A short visual tale, a kind of a monster showcase. A reunion with a visitor from another dream, one of those who live in our beds: a presenter of murky beings. A story between dreams and nightmares, fragile and with humour... the instant of a frisson.
Julien Aillet participated with Mogrr at FIMFA Lx8. A creation that has not gone unnoticed and was presented at many international festivals. FIMFA invited Julien to create a new version, which is now making its premiere in Lisbon.
BIO
Puppeteer, actor, director, set designer, musician and forever in love with monsters, Julien Aillet has been working for theatre and cinema since the early 2000s, after studying philosophy and visual arts. In 2009 he began a partnership with the Compagnie de l'Oiseau Mouche, which led him to work several times with Cédric Orain, author and director. He founded the company Monotype after a few solo shows. In 2014, he created Daedalus, an underground adaptation of the myth of Daedalus and Icarus. His creations address various questions, such as: What are the paths to emancipation? What to do with our fears? But above all: what is a monster? He devotes a significant part of his activity to directing workshops and actions aimed at various audiences. He regularly collaborates on projects with other companies (La Traversée, Cie Tourneboulé, Tantôt, La Rain qui Chute, Sens ascensionnel, Cendres la Rouge, etc.) for which he performs or designs objects and puppets.
